Tuning and notation

TuningStrings, low to high
Standard (re-entrant)G C E A
Customany note per string, for low G or baritone D G B E

Treble clef at sounding pitch, as in most ukulele books. The tab has 4 lines, named from the tuning. Changing the tuning or adding a capo keeps the sounding notes and frets the tab again.

Typing ukulele tab

  1. Press ↑ and ↓ to choose the string, then type the fret: 0 to 9, or two digits quickly for frets 10 and above. The note appears on the staff above as you type.
  2. Set the note length with + and −, a dot with ., a triplet with /, a rest with R, a tie with L.
  3. Add techniques with one key: H hammer-on or pull-off, S slide, B bend, X dead note, I let ring, P palm mute, V vibrato, Y harmonic. Alt+↑/↓ moves a note to another string.
  4. Press Space to hear it. Slow it down, loop a passage, or turn on the metronome and count-in.

Or enter from the staff: A to G for pitches, 2 to 8 to stack intervals; a string and fret are chosen for every note. How the two staves work together, and the full list of shortcuts.

Chords and strums

Stack notes with Shift and a letter, or type a fret on each string, and the chord appears on both staves. Name the chord above the beat, add a chord diagram, and mark the strum direction. Playback plays the chords with a ukulele sound.

Songs with a melody and chords

Put the melody on the tab, the chord names above it, and the lyrics under the notes. For a sing-along sheet, hide the notation staff in the instrument settings so only tab, chords and words print.

In and out

Ukulele tracks in Guitar Pro files open with their tuning. Export as PDF to print, text tab with the strings named A E C G, or Guitar Pro.

Questions

Is the G string the high re-entrant G?

Yes, by default: standard G C E A with the fourth string a high G. For a low-G ukulele, set the fourth string to the G below in the instrument settings; the tab is fretted again for it.

Can I write for a baritone ukulele?

Yes. Set the strings to D G B E in the instrument settings. The notation follows the tuning.

Does it play back with a ukulele sound?

Yes. Playback uses a synthesized ukulele, with a metronome, count-in and loop for practising.

Can I print the tab with chord diagrams?

Yes. Chord names and diagrams print with the tab in the PDF export. Lyrics print under the notes.

Is it free?

Yes. Writing, playback, import and export are free, and you can start without an account.
